Planking

July 10th, 2011

If you haven’t heard about the planking phenomenon yet, you’re probably described by friends as a hermit. The planking game (originally known as the lying down game) has taken over the internet with people all over the globe trying the completely pointless activity. Learn more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lying_down_game. It may be pointless, but it’s also plenty of fun, and something random you can fill your holidays with.

A few friends and I decided to find some cool places to plank. We ran into a rather unhappy security guard when attempting to plank on a telephone booth, but otherwise it was smooth sailing. I’ll keep adding more pics if my friends and I feel so inclined to continue doing it in more random places.

Africa Bike Week 2011

April 29th, 2011

My dad, being an avid bike lover and Harley owner, was up with the sparrows to join the Harley Davidson, Durban Chapter on a ride down to Margate for Africa Bike Week. Although my parents had been multiple times I’ve never been to the event and joined my mom in following the bikes down the coast in the car.

The atmosphere is electric, with thousands of bikes and people taking over the sleepy town. The unmistakeable sound of Harleys fills the air, as people ogle bike customisations and cameras are everywhere.

I, of course, was armed with my camera, and took a few pictures of the event, the beach, and some cool bikes.

Road Trip

December 10th, 2010

Road tripping with four beautiful girls in the Drakensberg is officially my new favourite thing to do. After an awesome holiday in the mountains, we decided to make the most of the trip home and stop off in a few stunning locations.

We started off at a tree plantation, where our car promptly got stuck in the mud and had to be pushed out whilst the rain pelted down. What’s a road trip without some kind of car difficulty?

We stopped again at a rustic BP petrol station, and had some fun on the railway line behind it. Some locals stopped to stare as we entertained ourselves in front of the camera.

Our last stop was on the hillside of a busy road with a beautiful skyline. Here’s the awesome result:

No Parking

September 27th, 2010

There’s something thrilling about being able to take awesome pictures. It’s a chance to be creative in a very different way then with video. Sometimes, and in my favourite kind of films, each frame is a masterpiece. If you can stop a movie at any point and it looks like an amazing photo, that’s magic. It’s also highly unlikely. As much as the cinematographer will try to create beautiful imagery, the story should be more important. With photography the picture is the only thing telling the story, and attention to detail is a must.

As a first attempt I grabbed two friends and went to a rundown area of the city. We had no real plan, but sometimes the best art happens by accident. I took all the photos below and my friends took the ones of me. Together, I reckon we made an awesome crew. Sharing ideas of what would make a great shot and making it happen.

I think we captured the beauty of the old and broken, along with some cool poses. What do you think?

Look out for more photography as we continue to experiment with this fantastic art form.
