Doing the do

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

I’m one of those people that climbs out the shower, dries my hair with a towel and moves on. It should therefore come as little surprise to find that I’m not one for hairdressers. After high school I avoided them at all costs. Waiting until I couldn’t see through the wild bush on my head before begrudgingly making my way to the hairdresser.

After two and a half years of hoping my hair will magically look cool I took to the internet to find the perfect do. The metro sexual in me searched the internet for cool hairstyles and made its way to the salon prepared with over 30 pictures.

To my horror, the hairdresser whipped out products and an iron. I grimaced as the smell of heating hair filled my nose. OK, it wasn’t that bad. In fact, I enjoyed being in control of what was happening with my hair for once.

As you can see by the pictures, it’s not perfect yet, but it’s a step in the right direction. At least I look human again, sort of…

Going to the beach front in Africa is a colourful experience. This budding entrepreneur has invested in a neat portable home with sea views.

Frank’s Hat

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Frank’s Hat was an idea born months ago. What if a man fell madly in love with his hat, so much so that they would spend every moment together? We then took it one step further, what if Frank’s hat cheats?

This is our most diverse Srizzil video to date, covering many different locations and shot over a few weeks. It’s mind blowing to think that just one and a half minutes of video can take days to film.

Due to difficulties in using an actual shopping centre we had to create our own shop for Frank to meet his hat. This turned out to be a blessing as it allowed us to create our own space. Look out for small things that symbolise different aspects of Srizzil and myself (Marc Williams) scattered around the shop.

I’d like to thank Wimpy, Nu Metro and HCF for allowing us to film at their venues and for being so accommodating. Most importantly, however, I’d like to thank Mandy Rothquel – a new addition to the Srizzil team, who was instrumental throughout the entire process. Welcome to the team.

Comment, subscribe, like, but most importantly watch. We love feedback, you guys rock.

You’re questions answered

How did you film the last shot?

Normally the correct method to film the shot would be to move the camera in one direction and zoom in the opposite at the same speed. Unfortunately, because we currently don’t have access to a trolley system we had to use the cruder method of getting the main character to do the moving instead of the camera.

Are you study film in South Africa?

Although I am in South Africa, I can’t afford to go to film school. It would be a dream to study film in Los Angeles. Instead of waiting for something to happen to me and falling behind actual film students, I’ve been teaching myself.

Srizzil Music Launches

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

With a skip and a hop I am proud to announce the launch of Srizzil Music. It’s an idea that has been in the works for some time but is only breathing its first breaths today. To create some nostalgia and to pay tribute to the millions of hopeful singers on YouTube we uploaded the following clip:

In classic YouTube style, the video is unedited, low quality and perfect all at the same time. Any guesses to what I’m saying at the end? Thankfully we have moved forward, to a place and time where things are bursting with colour and technology is progressing faster than a hungry Uncle Sam dashing towards the Christmas pudding.

Go to youtube.com/SrizzilMusic, subscribe and comment with suggestions to songs we should cover.

Msizi and I have recorded raw unedited songs for your perusal. Check them out, study them, analyse them and then hit the comments below the videos on YouTube with zest. We want to hear everything you have to say, yes even you Bob! Love us or hate us, we love you. Join the love fest as we create some crazy music videos, do some great covers and add a little Srizzil twist every so often.

Live High – Jason Mraz Cover

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

It’s easy to create beats, play with someone’s voice and make them seem talented. This is the reason we started off by creating raw music videos. Uncut, unedited, pure.

For Msizi’s video, we filmed at Durban, South Africa’s sunny beach front. The turbulent waves and beautiful clear sky enhance the message of Jason Mraz’s Live High.

Lyrics as sung in the video

“Live High” Jason Mraz

I try to picture a girl
Through a looking glass
See her as a carbon atom
See her eyes and stare back at them
See that girl
As her own new world
Though a home is on the surface, she is still a universe

Glory God, oh God is peeking through the blinds
Are we all here standing naked
Taking guesses at the actual date and time
Oh my, justifying reasons why
Is an absolutely insane resolution to live by

Live high
Live mighty
Live righteously
Taking it easy
Live high, live mighty
Live righteously

Taking it easy

Try to picture the man
To always have an open hand
See him as a giving tree
See him as matter
Matter fact he’s not a beast
No not the devil either
Always a good deed doer
And it’s laughter that we’re making after all

The call of the wild is still an ordination why
And the order of the primates
All our politics are too late
Oh my, the congregation in my mind
Is this assembly singing gratitude
Practicing their loving for you

Live high
Live mighty
Live righteously
Taking it easy
Live high, live mighty
Live righteously

Taking it easy
Live high
