Coca-Cola Happiness Truck

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Coca-Cola is one of my favourite companies. Not because of the products they create but because their brand is so good. Watch this innovative and brilliant idea in the video below. It’s pure genius to associate happiness with your brand. After all, who doesn’t want to be happy?

I love the guy’s face when a stunning surfboard comes out of the truck. What an amazing gift. Come to South Africa Happiness Truck!

Rejected by the Big Cheese

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

When one walks out of one’s last exam for the year, one feels a sense of jubilant delight. A silly grin spreads across one’s face and one tends to feel like breaking out into songs from the Sound of Music. One must not be so hasty, as life is bound to come back and smack that wickedly crooked smile off your face.

That’s right; it’s officially Christmas holidays for this Srizziler, which means tons of work that I actually want to do, and a bit of relaxation thrown in between. To kick it off I will be interviewing the ‘Crazy 8,’ from Spud: The Movie along with the producers, director and author. I was set to interview John Cleese but apparently he has better things to do with his time and would rather not speak to me. Let’s not blame him. It was probably somebody from his motley crew who made the decision to give me the axe. Judging by some of the Srizzil videos they may have been concerned that mixing my insanity with Cleese could cause a global meltdown.

To celebrate the new season a fancy new Srizzil will emerge, aptly named Srizzil 2.0. It’s cleaner, it’s prettier and it’s more user friendly. Try to contain your excitement, these are new rugs.

Let me saunter off into the rainy sunset whilst you await these fine offerings. I simply ask that you keep a sharp eye on Srizzil.com as the next few weeks heat things up.

Justin Bieber in South Africa

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Justin Bieber has landed in South Africa just a short while ago. A resident Belieber was on the scene to snap this photograph of him exiting from a separate door to everybody else. Justin and his manager Scooter are currently on vacation before his next concert in Hawaii. All credit goes to Chani Yachad for spotting him. Welcome to South Africa. Let’s hope he loves it so much he comes back on tour.

Update 1: The picture may be blurry but we have confirmation from the people that were there that it’s definitely him. (Justin is the one in the Beanie.)

Follow Srizzil on Twitter.

Update 2: It looks like heat caught a snap of him too, only much clearer. They have more pics and video on their site: heat.co.za

Update 3: Justin Bieber, after wisely waiting until the end of his trip, let his fans know that he was in South Africa though Twitter.

Wake up media

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Media MonkeysIs it just me or is the news getting boring. Because of the articles we create on Srizzil I try to keep up to date with what is going on around the world and in our home country, South Africa. But with all the amazing technology and millions of sites updated every couple of seconds the news seems to be getting really stale.

There is always someone famous going rouge, adopting orphans, or splurging their millions on something completely ridiculous. There are always corrupt and lying politicians, weird people having too many babies or strange weather patterns accruing all over the world. There’s always a war to be stopped and one getting started, another big company picking on the little guy and some new gadget that nobody needs but everybody wants. It’s old, it’s boring and it’s sad.

I don’t know about you but I’m tired of hearing about these things. They aren’t interesting anymore, they aren’t innovative or award worthy. Today news outlets make up stories to sell papers to the extent of ruining people’s lives for something they never did. It’s about hype and telling everyone that the guy they thought was great isn’t actually great at all. It’s about trying to prove genuine people have something to hide at all costs, driving the person to the point of insanity. Why? For money, fame or do these people get a kick out of seeing other people down?

It’s time the media started reporting on things that are newsworthy, things that are different. How about telling us what’s happening with cancer research. Not just that they may be one step closer to a cure but what do we know and what don’t we know. What can we as citizens do to help? What about discussing the real issue behind gay rights? It’s not whether or not they deserve rights as gays, it’s about weather society actually agrees that being gay is as normal as the media makes out. We won’t get into it all here but the fact is society is not ready to accept gay behaviour because they haven’t lost their sense of right and wrong completely yet.

Let’s be controversial but for the right reasons. Let’s do it to stir up discussion, to make change, to be a positive influence on other people and not be a group of whiners. Let’s get over the fact that people are racist and look at why they are racist. How do we change people’s perceptions of each other to the extent that colour is no longer an issue? Fighting over who is racist and who isn’t or who’s better off than who won’t solve a thing.

Wake up media. It’s time for a refresh.

What makes a movie great?

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

OscarWhat makes a movie great? Is it the actors, the director or the script? Why watch animated movies when you can watch real people acting on the screen?

Movies have been the voice of men and woman throughout their time. They are used as message carriers and entertainment for the masses. Movies can be hated and loved at the same time. They can be successful and the can be disasters, money spinners and money losers. Surely then there must be a formula for the perfect movie, a perfect way to create a perfect movie!

Teenagers seem to have a vendetta against animated movies, they feel that they are for little children and that if they watch animated movies they will be seen as babies! It’s a pity that they think in this way, some of the greatest movies have been animated movies and those movies contain the formula of the perfect movie!

The formula for the perfect movie is not simple. Many have failed to achieve the perfect magic that the formula releases when all the reactants are mixed correctly. The most important ingredient is a good script. The script of a movie is the foundation of all that is to come. No actor, director or producer can make a poor script turn into the magic ingredient it needs to be. So surely before adding any money, time or energy to a film the script should be perfected.

Story telling is what the movie business is all about, the script is the story’s heart. Action movies can be fantastic. Comedies, dramas, musicals can all be great and they can all be terrible to! So how can a script be perfected if all movie genres can be failures and successes? What must the script contain to make sure the movie is a success?

Iron Man

The answer is simple, the best movies are not specific to genre. The best movies are the ones that change your life! The best movies are unforgettable, they make you as a person want to change, and they make you want to be a better person. The best movies make you the main character, they take you somewhere purposeful and don’t waste your time! Some of my favourite movies of all time are Disney movies. The movies have heart, they makes you wish you where in them, interacting with the characters. The acting is done with passion which makes it so much better. All successful actors and actresses act with a passion unique to themselves.

Dark Knight

However, you can’t compare a made for television movie with a big screen movie. What makes movies like Peter Jackson’s King Kong of 2005, the Dark Knight and Finding Nemo so popular? They must have an element that was the same in making them a success. I think after a while the crucial elements become simple. You can watch a movie and know which are missing and which are there. The crucial ingredients are a great script, money, a passionate crew, passionate actors and actresses and a fantastic score!

Wall E

More importantly though is an ingredient that most movies lack, an ingredient that King Kong has but ‘Dude, where’s my car?’ lacks. It’s a moral story line, something that is often subconscious and goes by unnoticed in the greatest movies. It’s a sad but true fact that the world today is in a shambles, we don’t need more rubbish fed to us over and over again! What we need is moral movies encouraging the youth and the world to wake up to what is happening around us. It is not a matter of religion, although God is an important part of it for me. Any person can appreciate good values and morals if they just try hard enough!
