Rolling In the Deep by Adele (Cover)

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

I’ve been dieing to cover an Adele song for a while now and yesterday I finally turned on the camera and did it. Adele’s powerful lyrics and amazing voice have made her the biggest selling artist of the year and will no doubt lead to a pile of Grammys in 2012.

Beyond that, what makes me admire Adele the most is that her songs are not overproduced like most of today’s music. It allows the music to compliment her voice instead of overpowering it.

I am very proud of this cover, it’s the first time I’ve really been able to push myself and I’m feeling a lot more comfortable singing in front of the camera. I think the video showcases how far I’ve come this year with regards to confidence.

I hope you enjoy it, and let me know what you think and what I can do to improve.

Somebody to Love & Billionaire covers

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

The last time I recorded myself making musical noise was in May. So I readied my money maker with a good slap across the face, set the camera down and recorded one of my favourite songs: Somebody to love. The song was originally by Queen, of course, but I fell in love with the song after the late Brittany Murphy covered it for the Happy Feet movie.

As with all my singing videos, I immediately hated it afterward and tried not to look as I clicked render and upload. I’ve come to realise that the more I fuss about trying to make it perfect, the less fun I have and the more uncomfortable I look in front of the camera.

I am learning slowly but surely to let go and be more relaxed. It’s a strange thing to be in front of the camera. It changes the situation in the room. Increased time spent in front of it doesn’t actually make it more comfortable, it just gets you used to it. You learn to get over the weirdness of this large eye capturing your every move.

This is why I’ve uploaded the second video, a short cover of Billionaire by Travie McCoy and featuring Bruno Mars. In this video, I was actually just testing how to use and set up my new mic, so I didn’t do the whole song. However, I like the way the song came out. It’s a small glimpse of me messing around with music.

Justin Bieber covers ‘Come Home To Me’

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Justin Bieber is at it again. At some point during his crazy MyWorld touring schedule he managed to cover and release a new song. The song was originally from Lisa Goe and Ernie Halter, who were almost unheard of before the Biebs tweeted a free download to his cover. Is this Dan Kanter’s influence (Bieber’s Musical Director & Guitarist)? Maybe.

The acoustic song is tender and shows off the young super star’s developing voice. Remember when I found him years ago and said he was going to be huge?

The link the Biebs sent out was to a pretty dodgy advert infested website, so at my peril I’ve uploaded it to Srizzil for you to download in a nice clean environment. I also made some quick cover art (right), because we don’t want our iPods looking ugly whilst we listen to this awesome new song. You’re welcome.

Triple Bieber Cover

Friday, February 25th, 2011

I’ve wanted to cover some of Justin Bieber’s songs since he came out with his first album and then again with his second. Unfortunately it just never happened. The few times I did attempt to do anything it was horrible. Then, one night I was messing around with a guitar and singing some songs and decided to let the camera roll. This is the result. The Justin Bieber songs have been spliced together.

If you noticed, I did mix up some words in there, but hey at least it’s not the national anthem. :P

Merry Christmas

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

The season of family, friends, and insane shopping is reaching its peak for 2010. It’s the time of year where some families make their only trip to church, and churches everywhere sing carols and preach about Jesus’ birth. It’s a time where trolleys are filled with things people can’t afford and cues spiral along the shopping centre floors. It’s a time of year which is aptly referred to as the silly season.

Silly as people may get, it’s a special time of year. One where we can spend time with the people we love, and be thankful for all that we have.

I would like to wish everybody a happy and blessed Christmas, may your heart be warmed, and your love replenished.
