The walk by test

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

It seems the world has stepped into a new era. Thanks to Facebook, we no longer have any idea who our friends really are. People we socialize with are mostly obvious friends but when it comes to school, work and friend’s friends things get hazy.

Now for some people, the ones who are in a weird competition for mass fake friendship, they like the idea of inviting everybody to be their friend. For other normal people, we need a test, some kind of guideline to help us decide who our friends really are. I have the solution.

I call it, “The walk by test.” It’s pretty self explanatory, but for those of you who have slow synapse releases here’s an explanation. If you had to walk by the person who sent you a desperate friend request in a random street, would you recognize them? More importantly, would you stop to talk to them, or at least say hi? If the answer is yes, you’re one step closer to confirming your friendship. If no, IGNORE or DELETE the filthy stalker.

Just another bit of advice to make your life better, you’re welcome.

Why teachers drink

Below are some kids that deserve medals for their brilliance. Teachers are always asking us stupid questions, sometimes they deserve stupid answers:

A fully electric MINI

Electric MiniSo you thought electric cars where things for the distant future? Think again. BMW has been hard at work creating a fully electric Mini, cleverly named the MINI E.

Don’t worry about power, the Mini E can get to 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds and can reach an electronically limited 152km/h. That means if they hadn’t had the limit the MINI would be capable of travelling even faster. You can travel a full 240 kilometres or more from just one charge of your MINI E.

But when is it coming out? Unfortunately BMW are only releasing 500 Mini Es for testing. BMW’s goal is, “to start series production of all-electric vehicles over the medium term as part of its Number ONE strategy”

Although the Mini E may just be in the testing stages BMW are keeping the doors open for a possible full launch in the future. No petrol dependence? Sign me up!

American iTunes Store Account

iTunes StoreFor those countries which have iTunes Stores, setting up and purchasing items from the store is simple and easy. You just click sign in, create account, and off you go. But for countries without iTunes Stores, or iTunes Stores which only have certain content, getting the content you want is not so easy.

I doubt there will be anybody who will deny that out of all the iTunes Stores in the world, America has the best selection. So everybody wants an American account, even those that have iTunes stores in their country. For millions of people around the world, piracy is their main music and movie distributor. iTunes provides a simple paying alternative and because of the great content and ease of use many people prefer it to pirating their music. Unfortunately the studios, record labels and governments of the countries around the world don’t seem to see the benefit of making iTunes access a priority when it comes to fighting piracy. So some countries end up with no stores, and others have very little in their stores.

We found a way for anybody, from anywhere, to get an American iTunes store account and buy their music from the best music store in the world. Although what is being done does seem to be a loop hole in law and Apple’s policies, it still feels a little underhanded.

The best acceptable way to get an account is to get an American friend to create one for you with their address and details. If your credit card is not from an American bank you will not be able to register. So the way to get around this is to purchase gift vouchers for the iTunes store account and use those to pay for your music.

It sounds simple enough, but not everybody has a friend in the states, and getting gift cards on the internet can lead to scams. So what do you do? Step in tunecard.biz. A legitimate company that you can buy iTunes gift vouchers from. If you want, they will even set up an account for you.

UPDATE: tunecars.biz has closed down. This may or may not be due to Apple or dodge behavior, or maybe both. The only other way to get the vouchers is to buy them from ebay.com. If you do this, we recommend only buying from Top sellers. Look out for the Top Seller logo next to their name.

iPhoneAll you need is a paypal account and you’re on your way. We decided to give them a test run and see if this was all real. We had to set up a paypal account and get our credit card confirmed which took two days. After that we went through to their site, clicked on the amount we wanted and paid them through paypal. We were then directed to a page which asks for your details so that they could either set up your new account or put money into your existing account. After completion we received a confirmation e-mail from the site, thanking us for our payment. In just two hours we had an e-mail with our new account details. After logging on, our account had already been credited with the amount requested and we were free to download music.

It was simple, easy and the service was fantastic. If you want to pay for your music and have quality albums for great prices this service is your golden ticket. But I can’t stop wondering how legal this process is. After looking into Apple’s policy you can’t begin to deny that this process is not accepted by Apple. Their very first clause is that you must be in the United States to use the service. Here is the excerpt:

U.S. SALES ONLY

Purchases or rentals (as applicable) from the iTunes Store are available to you only in the United States and are not available in any other location. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Store from outside of the available territory. Apple may use technologies to verify such compliance.

After further investigation it seems there are very different and confusing tax laws in the different countries. This reason alone is probably good enough to stop outside buyers. So, unfortunately those of us who want to obey the rules have hit another brick wall. Although I think Apple is simply covering themselves from law suits, they can block your access if they catch you. It’s back to the drawing board for those of us who are too impatient to wait for our own great stores.

Exam Tips

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Find XWhen exam time comes knocking stress levels reach an all time high as inevitable cramming begins. Here are some tips to help you through the exam time and do well too.

To start off with it’s always better to have been following in class to make studying a lot easier. Instead of learning concepts for the first time you would have already gone over them and this will just be a refresher course.

But I know how it is. The weeks roll on, lessons get boring and the weekends are filled with much more interesting things than Maths or English. So now what? The test is tomorrow and you can’t go through the entire text book in one night.

The best thing to have is a really good summery, you can make them yourself – putting down only the difficult things – and go through that or you can often get study guides which are abbreviated with everything you need to know. Of course the best way to do it is to do it yourself.

ExamsThere are many different study techniques. You may use one or a mixture depending on the subject. Some people learn best orally by reading aloud or by listening to somebody talking. Others learn by reading to themselves in a quite place or with loud music on. Some people have to do things practically; you may have to practice the sum over and over again to get it right. You may have to do a science experiment to understand it. These people should try to convert the theory into practical, every day situations to understand it.

Once you’ve studied and are ready for the exam, or not, nerves and other strange things can take over your mind and cause you to battle and forget everything.

Don’t change your sleeping habits suddenly. If you think you should be going to bed early for the exams start going to bed early at least two weeks before. If you suddenly change your sleeping pattern you will shock your body and not be at 100%.

Many people say – don’t talk about the exam content before hand, but to be honest, sometimes it helps. If you are discussing stuff from the work you may pick up on things you would not have known before. Many theorists could kill me for this but, sometimes you actually catch something and it helps you in the exam. The trick is not to panic if you find out you have skipped something. Do your best to listen and get your friend to give you a short breakdown. If it’s too difficult, forget about it – it’s too late. But sometimes it’s something simple like a name and you can remember it quickly.

If discussing the exam before does not help you, and many times it doesn’t, then the best thing to do is listen to music. If you feel stressed listen to music that will get you relaxed. If you feel over the exam listen to music that gets you pumped up. If your mind is all over the place than it can be good to just read through notes to keep your mind focussed on the task at hand.

These ideas are what have worked for me and others but some may not work for you, maybe none work for you. The key to studying is to find your way of remembering things and understanding concepts and run with it. There is never a set way to learn, hopefully by reading this you’ve gotten a few new ideas that could help you find your perfect way to learn.
